30 days of a Garage Summer
If you told me I’d be meeting with company founders to setup a pop-up space, interviewing talented Garagers, writing for the Garage Society blog or mastering photoshop to create promotional content for Garage events, I would have never believed you. These tasks created valuable experiences for me as a Communications major and made an impact on me both personally and professionally.
Garage Society is the ideal place to work. The laid back environment, upcoming projects and interesting events contributed greatly to the rich experiences I gained in my time here. Most importantly, the best aspect of Garage Society is the welcoming atmosphere, especially the friendly and creative team members. I worked closely with Min and Jessie in the Marketing department who gave me room to grow while providing valuable guidance in the right direction. It was a great experience to learn from those who are experts in their field. The Cadet Programme is designed so that you can tailor make your experience to suit your personal, educational and professional goals. I was interested in developing my graphic design and writing skills - and I was successfully able to do so with the help of my colleagues.
Another fantastic thing about Garage is how they use their co-working space in an extremely versatile way. For example, MILK Magazine conducted a fashion photoshoot, transforming the office space into a runway. Additionally, we had a meeting with a Hong Kong based company, Hellodog, in which we discussed planning a tea with your pooch event, again making good use of the space for both humans and pets! The Sai Ying Pun space is one of the few places in Hong Kong that welcomes pets - a fact I found pleasantly surprising given that Hong Kong in general is not pet-friendly!
All in all, I can confidently say that during my time in the Garage Cadet Programme I have learnt valuable skills I can use in all aspects of life. I would like to thank the Garage Team, most importantly Min and Jessie, for providing me with amazing opportunities to explore my passions within the Marketing field and for an overall wonderful work experience!
