In honour of the Summer Olympics, we asked the Garage Community what newly introduced Olympic sport you are most eager to try this summer. We heard your answers Sport Climbing and Skateboarding loud and clear! We’ve put together a handy guide on the best places to give them a try in Hong Kong. With the rainy summer season upon us, the indoor options make for great weatherproof choices.
Starting with an oldie but a goodie! Founded in 2011, Verm city is one of the first gyms to introduce bouldering to the Hong Kong indoor climbing scene. Its convenient Quarry Bay location and sprawling 20,000 square feet venue are some of the reasons it’s remained a staple among climbing enthusiasts in the city. Their ‘Clip n Climb’ area (pictured) is perfect if you’re visiting with kids, or adults can give their Augmented Climbing wall a try.

Attic V is the brainchild of Joanna and Gwei, a power duo of climbing experts. While the ceilings here aren’t as high as some other climbing gyms, Attic V takes pride in updating their 100+ route regularly, with a good mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced options. You can easily spend a few hours tackling some challenging climbs here!

Located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong Climbing Park is a relatively new gym on the scene. It’s also one of the largest facilities in Hong Kong, with a spacious lead climbing zone, bouldering zone, and even a ninja warrior zone if you’re in the mood to do some obstacle course training. Bonus points for its high glass ceilings and excellent natural light, making it very photo-friendly if you enjoy documenting your adventures!

If you’re the type to squeeze in a quick climbing session during your lunch break, Keep Climbing Gym is the place for you! Tucked away in Sheung Wan, it’s only a 5-minute walk from our Garage Sheung Wan location. The trade-off for this ultra-convenient location is that the gym itself is on the smaller side, but the wall to ceiling routes should more than make up for it.

As one of Hong Kong’s only indoor skateparks, Sk85ive2 is especially popular among skateboarding enthusiasts during the rainy summer months. Its 3,000 square feet Kwun Tong location is open to members only, so be sure to book in advance! They’re recently partnered up with K11 Musea to launch a pop-up location, where they can assemble your custom skateboard onsite and hop on right away.

This skatepark is only one part of the gigantic, public Hong Kong Velodrome Park in Tseung Kwan O, but it can easily be considered the highlight. The project was overseen by Convic, designers of over 700 skateparks worldwide, including the famous Bondi Beach skatepark. There’s plenty of bowls, ramps, rails and of course, space. Bring a few friends and spend a day hopping between the skatepark, artificial lake, and climbing wall, all within this one park.

Also operated by the LCSD, this 1600 square meter skatepark is instantly recognizable by its colourful red and yellow decor. It's a popular destination for skateboarders, inline skaters, and freestyle BMX bikers alike, with zones clearly divided for beginners, intermediates and experts. There are plenty of beginner learners at this neighbourhood skatepark, so don't be afraid to make this your training ground!
